Art of Filipino craft in interiors
Filipino craftsmanship finds new expression in contemporary living spaces as the Design Center of the Philippines presents Enchanted at Manila FAME 2026, held from 15 to 17 October at the World Trade Center.
Bringing together 15 craft and materials producers from across the country, the exhibition explores how traditional techniques and indigenous materials can find a place in modern design. Rattan, abaca, coconut shells, paper and local textiles take center stage, revealing new possibilities for incorporating Filipino craftsmanship into interiors and everyday living.
Under the direction of guest creative director Jude Tiotuico, the installation combines sculptural forms, layered environments and softened curves to create a dynamic interplay of materials and space. Its bold compositions and natural textures highlight the versatility of local resources, demonstrating how heritage-inspired elements can complement contemporary interiors.
More than a showcase of finished products, Enchanted presents Filipino craft as a living practice that continues to evolve alongside changing lifestyles and design sensibilities. By connecting local makers with emerging trends, the exhibition encourages fresh approaches to materials while preserving the cultural knowledge behind each creation.
Established in 1973, the Design Center of the Philippines is an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry that supports local enterprises through design-driven product development and promotion. Its Manila FAME showcase reflects this continuing mission, highlighting how thoughtful design can help Filipino makers strengthen their market presence and bring locally crafted pieces into homes and spaces around the world.
Rooted in Filipino identity yet open to global influences, Enchanted celebrates the meeting of tradition and innovation. It offers a glimpse of how the country's rich material heritage can shape contemporary living, proving that craft is not simply a reflection of the past but an evolving part of how Filipinos design, create and inhabit spaces today.
