Letran College subdued College of Saint Benilde, 83-72, to remain on top of Group B in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 102 men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

Denzil Sison-Walker led the Knights with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and seven rebounds as Letran improved to a 6-3 win-loss record.

Head coach Allen Ricardo credited the team’s defensive effort for the victory, stressing that it would be the foundation of their success moving forward.

“I’m happy, but not satisfied,” Ricardo said.

“I told them this week that to make things easier for us in basketball, we have to start with our defense — everything else will follow. This is the result.”

The Knights set the tone early, taking a 24-13 lead after the opening quarter and staying ahead for the rest of the game.

Kevin Santos gave Letran its biggest lead at 77-53 with a dunk with 5:14 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Justin Cargo and Aaron Buensalida added 13 points apiece for the Knights, while Santos finished with 10.

Jhommel Ancheta and SJ Moore scored 12 points each for the Blazers, who fell to a 6-3 record in Group A.
