AMD AI transforms Hollywood
Emmy Award-winning production studio Light Sail VR has deployed an artificial intelligence-powered coordinator using AMD hardware to automate administrative tasks, allowing its creative team to manage more projects without relying heavily on cloud-based AI services.
The system runs locally on AMD Ryzen AI processors and Radeon graphics, helping the studio protect confidential client information while reducing expenses associated with cloud-based AI processing.
Light Sail VR founder and CEO Matthew Celia said the company turned to local AI because of the costs and privacy concerns associated with externally hosted models.
“There is a level of security that our clients expect from us, and I don’t feel comfortable sending any of that information outside these four walls,” Celia said.
The studio initially developed its AI coordinator using a Framework desktop equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Max processor and 128GB of unified memory. It subsequently added an AMD Radeon PRO R9700 graphics card to improve performance.
Integrated with Slack, the AI agent tracks project deadlines, schedules, documents and stakeholders while sending updates to employees.
It can also revise production timelines, update Google Sheets documents and prepare emails based on instructions received through Slack.
Celia said the technology has significantly increased his capacity to oversee simultaneous productions.
“Having the AMD computer allows me to handle six, seven, eight, or nine jobs with the same amount of personal effort,” he said.
Previously, Celia could personally oversee only one or two projects at a time.
The company is now exploring additional AI agents to assist with reviewing interview footage, analyzing story structure, monitoring social media performance and identifying comments requiring moderation.
