PNP steps up residential patrols ahead of Undas
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered intensified foot patrols in residential communities and public areas to prevent burglaries and other crimes as Filipinos prepare to observe All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Monday directed police commanders nationwide to increase police visibility, particularly in neighborhoods where residents are expected to leave their homes unattended during the Undas holidays.
The directive follows instructions from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., through Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to strengthen public security ahead of the annual observance.
“Police visibility is not just about putting more personnel on the streets. It is about preventing crime before it happens and ensuring that every family can observe Undas with peace of mind,” Nartatez said.
“We will strengthen our presence in residential areas and public places, close gaps that criminals may exploit, and work closely with our barangay partners to keep our communities safe,” he added.
Police commanders were instructed to strategically deploy personnel in residential areas and public places while strengthening coordination with barangay officials to identify and address potential security threats.
The PNP also urged homeowners to secure their properties before leaving for cemeteries, family gatherings or trips outside their communities.
“Crime prevention is a shared responsibility. While the PNP strengthens its presence on the ground, we urge every household to take proactive steps to secure their homes before leaving,” Nartatez said.
“Simple precautions can go a long way in denying criminals the opportunity to strike. Let us work together to ensure that our families can observe Undas with peace of mind, knowing that we have done our part to protect our homes and communities,” he added.
Nartatez earlier ordered police units to finalize their security preparations for the holiday observance.
Thousands of police personnel and additional resources are expected to be deployed nationwide to maintain peace and order during Undas.
