The Marcos administration assured the public that the safety of Filipinos in Europe is being closely monitored amid demonstrations across the region, adding that assistance is ready for those who may be affected.

In a briefing on Monday, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. puts Filipinos’ safety first during emergencies abroad.

“When there are incidents like this, the President first orders the concerned agencies to look into the situation and attend to the needs of our fellow Filipinos in affected areas,” Castro said.

Castro added that Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac is closely monitoring the situation, especially in Milan, Italy.

“Whatever the situation may be, the first thing the government protects is the lives and safety of our people,” Castro said.

The Palace also expressed hope that the unrest in France, Italy, and other European countries would end peacefully and would not affect European leaders’ planned attendance at the ASEAN Summit in Manila next month.

Castro also urged the public to understand how global events and El Niño affect the prices of basic goods as the government continues to take steps to help Filipinos deal with rising prices and other challenges.

She added that the government remains committed to protecting the public and maintaining peace and order.
