Vice President Sara Duterte said she prayed for the safe return of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to the Philippines during a visit to the Fort Pilar Shrine in Zamboanga City.

In a social media post, Duterte said she also prayed for peace and order in the country during her visit to the historical shrine, a site frequented by devotees of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

“We also fervently prayed for the order and peace of our country, as well as the safe return of former President Rodrigo Duterte to our homeland,” she said.

The elder Duterte remains in the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, over charges of crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s anti-drug campaign.

The Vice President said her visit to Zamboanga City was in response to an invitation from Junior Chamber International for its gathering and in solidarity with the city’s recently concluded Hermosa Festival.
