NAPOLCOM fires cop for assaulting elderly motorist
The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) has dismissed a police corporal for assaulting a 76-year-old senior citizen during a road rage incident in Taguig City.
NAPOLCOM Commissioner Rafael Calinisan announced Wednesday, 14 October, that the commission en banc unanimously ordered the dismissal of Police Corporal Simeon Dimaala Suan.
“Good riddance. We need to cleanse the PNP of abusive cops. We will not miss him,” Calinisan said in a statement.
According to NAPOLCOM, Suan assaulted and injured the elderly victim following a traffic dispute.
The commission found him guilty of two counts of less grave misconduct, two counts of grave misconduct, oppression and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
Apart from dismissal from the service, Suan faces forfeiture of benefits and perpetual disqualification from public office.
NAPOLCOM also ordered that a copy of its decision be forwarded to the Office of the Bar Confidant, as Suan is an applicant for admission to the Philippine Bar.
Calinisan reiterated the commission's commitment to holding erring police personnel accountable and enforcing standards of integrity, professionalism and respect for human rights within the Philippine National Police.
