Roel Z. Castro, president and chief executive officer of MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), has been recognized as a Circle of Excellence awardee for CEO of the Year at the 2026 Asia CEO Awards, highlighting his leadership in the Philippine energy sector.

The recognition places Castro among business executives acknowledged for their contributions to corporate leadership, economic development and organizational performance.

Castro heads MORE Power, the electricity distribution utility serving Iloilo City, where he has overseen efforts to modernize aging electrical infrastructure, improve service reliability and strengthen the company's operations.

Under his leadership, the company has pursued upgrades to its distribution network, including improvements to substations, power lines and other facilities intended to address longstanding electricity service concerns.

MORE Power began operating Iloilo City's electricity distribution system in 2020, undertaking the task of rehabilitating infrastructure while meeting the growing energy requirements of households and businesses.

Castro has previously described the challenges facing the city's electricity sector as opportunities for improvement rather than obstacles to development.

In an earlier interview with DAILY TRIBUNE, Castro emphasized his preference for delivering results rather than seeking publicity. “We don't advertise what we're doing. I just prefer to work silently — to just do it,” he said.

Beyond electricity distribution, Castro has extensive experience in power generation, transmission and corporate management.

Before leading MORE Power, he held executive positions at Palm Concepcion Power Corporation and Palm Thermal Consolidated Holdings Corporation. He also served in senior roles at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

His career spans more than two decades of executive leadership across the energy industry and other businesses.

Castro also serves as president of the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation, following his election in October 2024.

A graduate of the University of the Philippines Los Baños with a degree in agribusiness, Castro also pursued management studies at the Asian Institute of Management and advanced executive education abroad.

The Asia CEO Awards recognizes business leaders and organizations for achievements contributing to the Philippine economy, workforce development and the country's competitiveness.

Hailed by fellow fraternity members

Castro's recognition also drew congratulations from fellow members of the Upsilon Sigma Phi fraternity, who viewed his achievement as an example of professional excellence and service.
