Macacua vows inclusive BARMM governance as 46 MPs sign coalition accord
DAVAO CITY - Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua has vowed to pursue an inclusive government that bridges political divisions and serves all communities across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The commitment follows the signing of coalition documents by 46 elected Members of Parliament, surpassing the 41-seat threshold required for a majority in the 80-seat legislature.
Speaking at a press briefing in this city, Macacua emphasized that the incoming administration must prioritize unity and serve all constituents regardless of political affiliations or electoral choices.
"After the formal assumption of the Government of the Day, we will pursue a program for the unity of all Bangsamoro," Macacua said.
He described the coalition as broad and diverse, reflecting the need for political leaders to move beyond campaign divisions.
The newly elected parliament emerged from the 14 September elections, where no single party secured an outright majority.
The Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP), chaired by Macacua, emerged as the largest party with 31 combined seats.
The United Bangsamoro Justice Party and the BARMM Grand Coalition also secured substantial representation.
Macacua thanked the 46 lawmakers for their trust and the national government for respecting BARMM’s institutions.
The newly elected parliament members are scheduled to assume office on 30 October, when they will organize the new government and elect a chief minister.
The transition marks a crucial phase for the region's peace process, focusing on sustaining peace gains, strengthening political institutions, and advancing development across the autonomous region. Macacua concluded his statement with the Islamic expression, "Wa billahi Taufiq wal hidaya," invoking divine guidance.
