TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Transportation completed its wharf expansion project in Allen, Northern Samar, an important gateway for maritime transportation to Luzon and the Visayas.

The project involved the construction of a 106-linear-meter wharf and a 9.15-meter-wide Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), providing additional infrastructure to support the movement of passengers and cargo.

The project was funded by DOTr but implemented by the provincial government of Northern Samar through the Provincial Engineering Office. It expanded the wharf initially built by the municipal government of Allen that was also supported by DOTr.

The provincial government said the expanded wharf is expected to facilitate better passenger travel, improve cargo handling and the movement of goods, support trade and other economic activities in Allen and neighboring communities.

“As one of the province’s key maritime access points, improved port infrastructure also contributes to better connectivity and more efficient transportation services,” the provincial government stated.

The provincial government said that under the incumbent leadership of Gov. Harris Ongchuan, it will continue to work with national government agencies and local government units to promote infrastructure development, strengthen transportation networks, and promote economic growth across Northern Samar that were started under the previous administration.
