PBBM pledges journos’ safety
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s commitment Tuesday to protecting press freedom, safeguarding journalists, and combating digital misinformation.
Speaking during the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected officers of the Malacañang Media Groups at Malacañang Palace, Marcos stressed that press security remains a priority for the government.
“This administration remains committed to ensuring that our reporters, our photojournalists and cameramen can perform their duties freely and safely, and without fear of intimidation or violence from anywhere,” Marcos said.
The President cited that the Presidential Task Force on Media Security has conducted security workshops and expanded coordination across government agencies to safeguard media workers.
To recall, ahead of the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections, the task force established dedicated media monitoring centers to track and support journalists deployed in the field across the autonomous region.
To counter online disinformation, Marcos highlighted the implementation of “Oplan Kontra Fake News,” an executive framework designed to curb viral falsehoods while respecting civil liberties.
“We likewise support measures that promote the public’s right to information and address disinformation while safeguarding freedom of expression,” Marcos said.
Stressing the vital function of journalism in a democratic society, the President urged media practitioners to maintain rigorous standards of accuracy and objectivity.
