Fans of Attack on Titan will get to experience the hit Japanese manga as a live stage musical when the production arrives at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, from 15 April to 2 May 2027.

The Singapore season marks the production’s first Asian engagement outside Japan, following performances in Tokyo and Osaka and an international engagement at New York City Center in October 2024.

Tickets went on sale on 13 October, with early-bird discounts available through 1 November. Eligible UOB cardmembers can receive discounts of up to 20%, depending on the booking channel and ticket category. Other public ticket categories qualify for a 15% discount, subject to exclusions and terms.

From manga to musical

Created by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan follows humanity’s fight against giant, man-eating creatures known as Titans. The story centers on Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackermann and Armin Arlert, three childhood friends whose lives change when the Titans breach the walls protecting their home.

The musical adapts the story’s early chapters, covering events from the beginning through the Battle of Trost. The stage version condenses and rearranges elements of the original narrative for a live production.

Unlike a conventional stage adaptation that relies primarily on dialogue and dramatic action, the musical incorporates original songs, live vocals, choreography and stage technology to tell the story. It also features “Guren no Yumiya,” the opening theme from the first season of the anime.

A distinct Japanese style

The production belongs to a Japanese theatrical genre known as 2.5-dimensional musicals, which bring characters and fictional worlds from manga and anime into live performance. The term refers to the space between two-dimensional illustrations and three-dimensional stage productions.

Directed by Go Ueki, the musical features a book by Masafumi Hata, music supervision by KEN THE 390 and lyrics by Kaori Miura.

The Singapore performances will be in Japanese, with English subtitles.

Chantal Prudhomme, chief executive of Base Entertainment Asia, the production’s Singapore presenter, said the show introduces audiences to a Japanese theatrical format that combines manga-inspired visuals with live music and performance.

She said the Singapore season would give established fans another way to experience the story while introducing newcomers to the genre.

A story built for the stage

The original production premiered in Osaka and Tokyo in January 2023. After its New York engagement in October 2024, it returned to Japan for performances in Tokyo in December 2024 and Osaka in January 2025.

Its arrival in Singapore will give audiences in Southeast Asia an opportunity to see the Japanese production without traveling to Japan.

Beyond its battles against the Titans, the story explores friendship, freedom, sacrifice and survival. Those themes remain central to the musical as it translates the manga’s early chapters into a combination of music, choreography and live action.

The Singapore season runs for a limited period, from 15 April to 2 May 2027, at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands.
