Police units reminded to uphold fiscal discipline, transparency
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, P/Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Monday, reminded all police offices and units to strictly observe fiscal discipline and ensure the responsible use of government funds.
The reminder came following the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) announcement that it would issue a stricter government policy on agency spending to prevent lavish parties disguised as planning activities.
Nartatez stressed that the PNP leadership would not tolerate any misuse of public funds or extravagant spending by police offices and units.“We will not tolerate any misuse or extravagant spending in police offices and units, especially for gatherings and parties under the guise of planning sessions and other activities,” Nartatez said.
“As frontliners in law enforcement, it is expected that we will abide by the policies on utilizing government funds,” he added.
This is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr., through the guidance of DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to promote accountability, transparency, and the prudent use of government resources.
The DBM said the national government is strengthening its efforts to ensure that public funds are spent wisely and responsibly. For its part, the PNP vowed to promote greater transparency and accountability in the use of government funds, ensuring that expenditures support projects and activities that improve public service.
“The PNP remains committed to ensuring accountability and fiscal discipline in the use of public funds. We aim to use taxpayers’ money for activities that will be beneficial to the Filipino people,” Nartatez said.
