DILG deploys 54 patrol motorcycles in North Luzon to boost 911 emergency response
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has deployed 54 patrol motorcycles to police units in the Ilocos and Cagayan Valley regions to improve emergency response in remote and hard-to-reach communities.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla led the turnover ceremonies at Police Regional Office 1 in San Fernando, La Union, and Police Regional Office 2 in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The motorcycles will support the government's Unified 911 emergency response program by improving police mobility, particularly in areas where road conditions can delay assistance.
Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan each received 10 motorcycles, while La Union, Cagayan and Isabela received eight units each.
Remulla said the deployment forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen the response capabilities of police personnel during emergencies and other public safety incidents.
The DILG plans to distribute more than 5,000 motorcycles to police stations nationwide.
“We must learn lessons from the past. Yet we must strive forward like soldiers do every day. We strive forward for a better organization,” Remulla said.
During his visits, the Interior Secretary also met with officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and DILG local government offices.
Discussions focused on peace and order, emergency response, institutional accountability and improvements in public service.
Remulla stressed the importance of faster emergency assistance and called for zero tolerance for malpractice within the BFP.
He also raised the possible revival of the Seal of Good Local Governance framework to strengthen accountability and performance among local government units.
Joining Remulla were PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. and BFP Officer-in-Charge Fire Chief Superintendent Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu.
The DILG said it would continue strengthening coordination among police units, local governments and emergency responders to improve public safety nationwide.
