Singapore History Gallery reopens after major revamp
Seven chronological zones exploring Singapore’s maritime heritage, colonial era, Japanese occupation, independence, modernization and emergence as a global hub.
The National Museum of Singapore reopened its revamped Singapore History Gallery on 10 October, featuring more than 700 years of history through artifacts, personal accounts and interactive exhibits.
The reopening coincides with the completion of the museum’s three-year restoration and its 139th anniversary celebrations, running from 10 to 18 October.
The gallery features seven chronological zones exploring Singapore’s maritime heritage, colonial era, Japanese occupation, independence, modernization and emergence as a global hub.
Highlights include the piano used by composer Zubir Said to compose “Majulah Singapura,” displayed for the first time, and interactive exhibits that let visitors share their reflections on Singapore’s evolving identity.
The museum also introduced Stoney, a new mascot inspired by the historic Singapore Stone.
The reopening of the Level 2 Life in Singapore galleries is scheduled for early 2027, ahead of the museum’s 140th anniversary.
