Greenstrum, Huawei pair EV charging, storage
Greenstrum and Huawei Technologies Philippines have presented a system that combines electric vehicle (EV) chargers with battery storage to help businesses manage electricity demand.
The companies held their first business-to-business showcase at Huawei’s showroom in Bonifacio Global City. More than 20 representatives from five enterprises attended, including property developers and academic institutions.
The session featured Huawei’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which stores electricity when demand is low and releases it during periods of heavier consumption. Greenstrum, the EV charging subsidiary of ACMobility, provides charger installation and engineering services.
Greenstrum chief operating officer Carl Decleodt said battery storage could help businesses reduce electricity costs and accommodate EV chargers without major changes to existing electrical facilities.
“We don’t come in just to provide hardware. What we do is we come in and provide a solution,” Decleodt said.
He added that the system could occupy as little as two square meters.
Daniel Garcia, an electrical engineer at DMCI Homes, said the developer is incorporating EV chargers into its condominiums. He noted that additional power demand beyond contracted capacity could pose a challenge and that BESS could help address it.
Liezl Mico, purchasing officer at Daiichi Properties Inc., described battery storage as an investment whose savings could increase with continued use.
The partners also see potential demand from hotels and businesses that operate electric fleets or cold storage facilities.
More showcases are planned, although dates have not been announced. The companies did not disclose system pricing or customer contracts.
