The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is investigating structural damage to the San Mateo Flood Control Project in Arayat, Pampanga, barely a year after its reported completion in 2024.

During an inspection on Friday, 9 October 2026, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, Pampanga Vice Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda and Arayat Mayor Jeffrey Luriz discovered displaced sheet piles and a collapsed road section, affecting approximately 250 meters of roadway and 56 linear meters of sheet piling.

Dizon ordered an examination of the materials used to determine whether they met construction standards, warning that those responsible would face accountability if irregularities were established.

Pineda said the provincial government and DPWH would form a joint inspection team to determine the cause of the damage and pursue charges if wrongdoing is confirmed.
