The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has repatriated a Filipina victim of human trafficking who is battling Stage IV breast cancer, following assistance from the agency’s Migrant Workers Office in Bangkok, Thailand.

The woman was reportedly lured to Myanmar by a fraudulent job offer for a customer service position but was instead forced into labor.

As her medical condition deteriorated, she was taken across the Myanmar-Thailand border to Mae Sot in Tak province, where humanitarian organizations provided temporary shelter and medical assistance before her repatriation.

Upon learning of her situation, Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Bangkok immediately coordinated with the Philippine Embassy in Thailand and relevant Thai authorities to facilitate her urgent repatriation.

Given her irregular entry into Thailand and the immigration procedures typically required before her departure, the MWO, with the Embassy’s assistance, pursued diplomatic representations with the Thai Immigration Bureau, the Royal Thai Police, and relevant airport authorities to seek exceptional humanitarian consideration.

Through sustained coordination, the MWO secured the necessary arrangements for her transfer from Mae Sot to Bangkok and her subsequent repatriation to the Philippines, prioritizing her critical medical condition.

On 10 October 2026, MWO Bangkok, the Philippine Embassy, Tak Immigration, Bangkok Immigration, and Suvarnabhumi Airport authorities successfully repatriated the Filipina.
