SHOW
As if no time has passed
There is nothing quite like watching Gary V work his magic in a venue as intimate as the Music Museum. Catching his Back at the Museum run—marking his 107th show there—felt less like attending a standard concert and more like stepping straight into a living piece of OPM history.
Right from the get-go, the tone was set by a bold opening message on the LED screens: “No AI was used in the making of this video.” As vintage clips from his past Music Museum runs rolled, Gary stepped out and nailed the exact choreography from decades ago. It gave me total deja vu—it honestly felt like watching time and space fold in on itself. For the mostly Gen X crowd packed into the room, seeing him move with that exact same unbridled passion was nothing short of surreal.
What I love most about Gary is how he effortlessly bridges pure fun with deep, soulful meaning. Between the numbers, he shared candid stories about his life and the people who shaped his journey, including how producer Bella Tan gave him the creative freedom to find his true voice back when he was first being molded into a typical pop idol.
The emotional high point, though, was the request segment. Instead of just taking casual shoutouts for the brokenhearted, he specifically opened the floor to anyone feeling “crushed in spirit.” Hearing him transition into those powerful, inspirational anthems turned the whole venue into a sanctuary.
And the setlist? Absolute perfection. He had us swaying to classics like "Di Bale Na Lang" and belting along when the groove kicked into high gear with "Look in Her Eyes" and "Eto Na Naman."
Of course, you can't have a Gary Valenciano show without completely blowing the roof off at the end. Toward the finale, he had everyone completely on their feet—starting with a fiery Spanish/Latin set, diving straight into high-octane crowd-pleasers like "Shout for Joy," and wrapping up with a blistering Earth, Wind & Fire medley that looped right back to his legendary past concerts.
Walking out of Back at the Museum, it was so clear why he thrives in a place like this. After all these years, Pure Energy is still undefeated. Gary Valenciano headlines the 10-show concert series at the Music Museum, bringing his signature energy and enduring OPM legacy back to a venue that has witnessed so much of his musical journey.
