Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete underscored the need to strengthen information operations and counter disinformation during his visit to the Civil-Military Operations Command (CMOC) on 9 October.

Nafarrete called on the military to adapt to an evolving battlespace that extends beyond traditional physical domains.

“More than the plans and capabilities, I want to really acknowledge how the Civil-Military Operations Command managed to adapt and position itself to meet a battlespace that now goes beyond physical domains,” he said.

He also urged the AFP to harness emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to strengthen its information campaigns and counter threats in the information environment.

“Let us harness all information-related capabilities and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to shape our narrative, counter disinformation, and disrupt malign influence operations,” Nafarrete added.

During the visit, the AFP chief attended the blessing of the Civil Affairs Group Office, received a briefing on CMOC’s operations and capabilities, and met with troops.

CMOC commander Lieutenant General Arvin R. Lagamon led the presentation of the command’s accomplishments, initiatives and ongoing efforts to support the AFP’s mission through civil-military operations.

The visit highlighted the AFP leadership’s push to strengthen civil-military operations and improve the military’s capacity to address emerging challenges in the information environment.
