Yang’s transfer bid stalled
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Controversial businessman Tony Yang, brother of former Presidential Economic Adviser Michael Yang, is being held at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Lumbia Male Dormitory here, authorities confirmed.
Yang is detained alongside other inmates while awaiting the resolution of criminal cases filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), including charges involving alleged corporate fraud and false Philippine citizenship under the name Antonio Maestrado Lim.
Immigration authorities have sought his transfer to Manila to face separate proceedings over his citizenship. Local courts, however, have ruled that Yang must first face the criminal cases pending in Cagayan de Oro.
His business operations, including those of Philippine Sanjia Steel Corporation in Misamis Oriental, have come under government scrutiny and were previously raided.
Yang remains in detention under standard jail protocols, sharing facilities and following the same daily routine as other inmates while the court proceedings continue.
