The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) held its Lakbay Palay Wet Season 2026 on Thursday, October 8, at Barangay Tabug, Batac City, Ilocos Norte, bringing together farmers, researchers and government representatives to showcase technologies aimed at addressing climate-related challenges in rice production.

The activity was led by PhilRice Batac Station Director I Mary Ann U. Baradi and attended by representatives from various government offices, science researchers and specialists, as well as adult and youth farmers from different parts of the Ilocos Region.

Held under the theme “PhilRice’s Best: Handal Laban sa El Niño,” the event featured a field tour, exhibits, Tekno Klinik and plenary sessions highlighting rice technologies, farm machinery and programs designed to help farmers cope with El Niño, climate variability and water-related risks.

Farmers also shared their experiences and challenges through testimonials and the PalayTalakayan, providing a venue to discuss concerns affecting rice production and possible responses through technology and improved farming practices.

DA-PhilRice said the activity seeks to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and preparedness for El Niño and other climate-related challenges by promoting appropriate technologies and farming practices.

The initiative also underscored the importance of climate preparedness and innovation in building a more productive, resilient and sustainable rice sector in the Ilocos Region.
