San Beda University shoots for a third straight victory as it faces University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in Season 102 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament today at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Game time is set for 5 p.m., with the Red Lions looking to sustain their momentum after a 74-65 overtime victory over bitter rivals Letran College last Monday.

San Beda improved to 4-2 in Group A behind a balanced attack with head coach Yuri Escueta urging his players to remain confident in taking over the scoring load regardless of the opponent.

“Whoever can step up in that game, if you’re the best player, you’re the King Lion. Next game, if you want to step up, you’re the King Lion,” said Escueta, who drew 18 points and five rebounds from Aldous Torculas in their previous game against their bitter rival Letran.

Perpetual, meanwhile, is looking to snap a two-game skid after falling to College of Saint Benilde, 79-81, last 1 October.

The Altas carry a 2-4 record in Group B, with head coach Olsen Racela calling for better execution and more consistency.

“We need more players to step up and consistency, and execution of plays we have set, good defense,” Racela said.

“I told the boys to limit the turnovers and improve the shooting percentage compared to the last game where they had 5 of 24 attempts from the three-point area, while the opponent had 15 out of 37 attempts.”
