The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reminded all mall security personnel and security management to strengthen security inspections and remain vigilant during the “Ber” months.

According to NCRPO Officer-in-Charge Police Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano, malls and other commercial establishments typically experience an increase in foot traffic during this period due to various activities and preparations for the holiday season.

Abrahano noted that criminals may take advantage of the influx of shoppers and the busy environment to carry out their activities.

The NCRPO chief directed mall security personnel to ensure that entrance inspections are properly conducted and that individuals entering the establishments, as well as their belongings, are thoroughly checked.

He cited incidents reportedly linked to the so-called “Martilyo Gang,” in which hammers and other implements may be used as instruments in the commission of crimes.

Abrahano advised mall security personnel to be particularly vigilant in hardware sections and stores selling tools and other equipment that could potentially be misused or used in the commission of crimes.

Meanwhile, Abrahano directed security commanders to maintain direct communication and coordination with mall security management to strengthen information sharing, monitoring, and other appropriate security measures.
