Aboitiz Cup draws huge field

DAVAO CITY — Around 225 teams from all over Mindanao are set to see action in the 26th Season of the Aboitiz Football Cup starting this weekend at the Tionko Football grounds here.

Liza Kristel Dureza Valencia of the organizing CR7 Food Truck Football Cup Inc. said they will have four playdates in anticipation for the huge field that is set to participate.

“New season with more teams. It will be bigger and better this year as we have four playing dates for the tournament,” Valencia said, adding that this year will also highlight the Ladies Division in a bid to discover lady booters not only in Davao City but in all Mindanao.

Aside from Davao City, Aboitiz Football Cup legs are also held in Cebu City, Tarlac and Batangas.

Valencia said this season’s tournament is a preparation for a major event next year, the Aboitiz Winners’ Cup Football Championships, where champions from different legs will gather for the ultimate crown.
