Metropolitan Manila police warned the public Tuesday to beware of fraudulent online hotel accommodations and discounted travel promotions during the traditional “Ber” months, when holiday travel bookings surge nationwide.

National Capital Region Police (NCRPO) Office officer-in-charge Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano urged consumers to exercise strict caution when booking hotels, resorts, airline tickets, and vacation packages online, warning that cybercriminals exploit high seasonal demand with unverified flash sales and abnormally low prices.

“Do not let attractive travel deals cloud your judgment,” Abrahano said in a statement. “Before sending any payment, verify that the hotel, travel agency, or booking account is legitimate. A few minutes of verification can prevent the loss of your hard-earned money.”

Police officials highlighted common tactics used by online scammers, including social media accounts using stolen resort photography, spoofed logos, freshly registered pages, and websites imitating established travel firms.

The NCRPO advised consumers to confirm reservations directly through verified official channels and avoid transferring funds to personal bank accounts or mobile e-wallets when dealing with commercial enterprises.

Abrahano warned against high-pressure tactics urging immediate bank transfers to secure expiring discounts, advising travelers never to share passwords, one-time passwords, or personal banking credentials with third parties claiming to represent booking agencies.
