CMTG upgrades private cloud
Australian IT infrastructure provider CMTG has upgraded its private cloud platform using Lenovo ThinkSystem SR675 V3 servers powered by AMD EPYC 9475F processors.
The company said the refresh was aimed at improving virtual desktop performance, lowering service costs and preparing its infrastructure for future artificial intelligence (AI) workloads.
CMTG, based in Perth, provides private cloud, data storage, application hosting and support services to small and medium-sized businesses across Australia.
Its existing infrastructure, built on Lenovo servers with VMware and Citrix virtualization, was nearing the end of its service life, prompting the company to undertake a broader platform upgrade.
CMTG said Lenovo XClarity Pro helped automate deployment and migration, allowing the company to complete the switchover overnight without disrupting customers.
The new infrastructure is also designed to improve performance for graphics-heavy workloads, including computer-aided design applications running through CMTG’s virtual desktop environment.
CMTG said testing on its Citrix Windows 11 VDI environment achieved 60 frames per second, the platform’s upper limit.
Customers also reported faster application performance following the upgrade, including one case where SQL reporting times improved by about three times, according to the company.
CMTG said it plans to use the upgraded infrastructure to support AI workloads through a secure, Australia-based environment.
“Moving to Lenovo ThinkSystem SR675 V3 servers powered by AMD EPYC processors is night and day as far as performance is concerned,” CMTG managing director Carl Filpo said.
