NAGA CITY — Police have located the driver of an overturned tanker truck that crashed into a residence along the national highway in Camarines Sur on Saturday, authorities confirmed Monday.

The Libmanan Municipal Police Station located the driver hours after he fled the accident scene in Barangay Sibujo following the 3 October crash.

Police investigators also clarified Monday that the vehicle was carrying industrial fuel oil, correcting earlier municipal reports that identified the cargo as liquefied petroleum gas.

Revised police findings established that the southbound tanker was en route to Ligao City, Albay, from Sariaya, Quezon, when the driver lost control while navigating a curved stretch of the highway at around 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

The out-of-control rig veered off the asphalt, crashing through a residential fence and striking a house before coming to rest on its side.

No injuries were reported, but the collision caused structural damage to the residence and heavy damage to the truck.

Police declined to disclose the driver’s identity or state why he abandoned the crash site, citing ongoing investigations.

A total road closure remained in effect at Sitio Poktol in Barangay Sibujo as of Monday noon, with emergency responders, police personnel and fire crews conducting hazardous material recovery and clearing operations to safely extract the tanker and restore normal traffic flow.
