Filipino families who want to switch to a hybrid SUV without worrying about charging stations have another option in the GAC GS4 Max HEV, which combines gasoline and electric power with the convenience of conventional refueling.

GAC Philippines currently offers the SUV at an introductory price of P1,218,000, or P80,000 below its regular suggested retail price of P1,298,000. The promotional price applies to reservations made until 13 December 2026.

The five-seater SUV uses a self-charging hybrid system, which means owners do not need to install a home charger or visit an electric vehicle charging station. They can fill the tank at any gasoline station and continue their journey.

The system automatically switches between electric and gasoline power according to driving conditions. It also recovers energy during deceleration to help recharge the battery.

GAC claims a driving range of up to 1,250 kilometers on a full tank under approved test conditions. Actual mileage will depend on traffic, driving habits and road conditions.

That figure could interest families who regularly travel between Metro Manila and the provinces, including those who prefer fewer fuel stops along the way.

A 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine works with an electric motor to produce a combined 232 horsepower. The electric motor delivers a maximum torque of 300 Newton-meters.

The combination provides electric motor assistance during acceleration, particularly in stop-and-go traffic. It also supplies additional power when the vehicle carries passengers and luggage on longer trips.

CABIN features of the GAC GS4 Max HEV include a central touchscreen, wireless phone charging and a black interior.

Cabin space is another consideration, particularly when a family needs the same vehicle for weekday school trips and weekend travel.

The GS4 Max HEV has a 2,750-millimeter wheelbase and measures 1,901 millimeters wide. Its two-row cabin offers space for five occupants, with rear air-conditioning vents and several storage compartments.

Passengers also get a panoramic roof with an electric sunshade.

The luggage compartment holds 638 liters with the rear seats upright. Cargo capacity increases to 1,586 liters when the 40/60 split rear backrests are folded.

According to GAC, the expanded compartment can accommodate approximately five golf bags or as many as 10 large pieces of luggage.

Driver assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control and Traffic Jam Assist, which help manage vehicle speed and distance from other cars.

Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking provide additional safeguards, while lane assistance systems support highway travel. A surround-view camera helps drivers negotiate narrow spaces and parking areas.

Smartphone connectivity and wireless phone charging are also available in the cabin. However, the driver assistance features do not replace the need for constant attention behind the wheel.

GAC backs the GS4 Max HEV with a five-year or 150,000-kilometer basic vehicle warranty, whichever comes first.

The hybrid battery, driving motor and motor control unit have separate coverage of eight years or 150,000 kilometers.

Owners also receive two years of free roadside assistance. GAC has 30 dealerships nationwide and maintains a local spare parts warehouse to support vehicle maintenance and repairs.

The GS4 Max HEV is available in Planet Silver, Hoary Grey and Crystal White, with a black interior. Reservations and test-drive appointments are open at GAC dealerships nationwide.
