Marathon dancing is not for the faint-hearted. Nigerian professional dancer Benjamin Daniel did it in an attempt to set a new world record for the longest non-stop dancing by an individual.
From 22 to 29 September, Daniel danced at Freedom Park in Lagos City. His 168-hour, or week-long, feat could overwrite the current Guinness World Record (GWR) — 127 hours set by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap in 2023, the BBC reported.
GWR said it is awaiting the submission of proof from Daniel, who was given a five-minute break every hour of continuous dancing.
After ending the danceathon, the exhausted Daniel went to a hospital for a checkup.
Meanwhile, dancing turned almost fatal for a University of Georgia student.
Kristen Elizabeth Sargent, 21, of Virginia, was dancing on a couch next to an open window in her eighth-floor apartment in Athens, Georgia, USA on 26 September.
For an unexplained reason, Sargent went out the window and fell to the poolside deck below, NBC News reported.
Officers from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the accident and saw the victim lying on the ground and seriously injured when they arrived at the Rambler Athens Apartments.
The student was conscious and alert, according to police, who noticed a smashed metal bench that she hit. It likely cushioned the woman’s fall.
The initial probe “thus far suggests that this was an accident” and that the victim “will survive,” Police Sgt. Erik Ellison wrote in a report.
