Over 11,000 accosted in Leyte under Safer Cities initiative
TACLOBAN CITY — More than 11,000 individuals were accosted for traffic and local ordinance violations across Leyte in September, the Leyte Police Provincial Office said Friday.
The LPPO recorded 11,422 violations from 1 to 30 September under its strengthened Safer Cities Initiative.
These included 3,659 traffic violations, 3,597 cases involving individuals found half-naked in public, 1,768 drinking violations, 1,249 curfew violations and 1,149 smoking violations.
Leyte police director Col. Celerino Sacro said personnel would continue reminding violators and enforcing ordinances in coordination with local governments and other stakeholders.
“I commend our personnel for their continued efforts in implementing the Safer Cities Initiative across the Province of Leyte. We will sustain our police visibility and engagement with our communities while ensuring the proper and fair enforcement of local ordinances,” Sacro said.
“Through our collective efforts, we will continue to provide police service that is seen and felt by the people we serve,” he added.
Sacro said the initiative aims to strengthen police visibility, prevent incidents through early intervention and encourage compliance with local ordinances and traffic rules.
