6ID, JTF Central reaffirm support for PNP operations in BARMM
The Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central reaffirmed their support for Philippine National Police law enforcement operations in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The commitment was made during a coordinating conference at Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, on 30 September.
Acting 6ID/JTF Central commander Brig. Gen. Ricky P. Bunayog said the military would continue assisting the PNP in legitimate operations, including the service of warrants, while observing existing laws, established procedures and human rights.
Bunayog said civilian safety must remain a priority in all security operations and urged government forces to exercise professionalism and respect for the rights and dignity of individuals.
He also appealed to people possessing illegal firearms and other unauthorized weapons to surrender them through lawful channels.
“Piliin ang mapayapang buhay bago pa magsisi,” Bunayog said.
He added that individuals or groups who continue to threaten communities or disrupt peace and order would be held accountable through appropriate legal processes.
The meeting gathered representatives from the PNP, Philippine Marine Corps, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Highway Patrol Group.
The agencies discussed law enforcement support, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, troop and civilian movements and post-election security operations, as well as the overall security situation in BARMM.
