TACLOBAN CITY — More than 11,000 people were accosted for various local ordinance and traffic violations in Leyte in September, the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO) reported Friday.

LPPO said 11,422 individuals were accosted from 1 to 30 September as part of the strengthened implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative in the province.

The violations included 3,659 traffic offenses, 3,597 cases involving people found half-naked in public places, 1,768 drinking violations, 1,249 curfew violations and 1,149 smoking violations.

LPPO provincial director P/Col. Celerino Sacro said police would continue to remind and engage individuals found violating local ordinances while taking appropriate enforcement measures in coordination with local governments and other stakeholders.

“I commend our personnel for their continued efforts in implementing the Safer Cities Initiative across the Province of Leyte. We will sustain our police visibility and engagement with our communities while ensuring the proper and fair enforcement of local ordinances,” Sacro said.

Sacro said the initiative is part of LPPO’s efforts to strengthen police visibility, prevent incidents through early intervention and promote compliance with local ordinances and traffic regulations.
