QC logs alarming dengue cases spike
Health officials in Quezon City are closely monitoring a recent surge in dengue cases after recording 5,589 infections and 24 related deaths from 1 January to 24 September, according to a municipal surveillance report released Thursday.
Data from the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division showed a case fatality rate of 0.43 percent.
While overall cases remain 35 percent lower than the 8,600 recorded during the same period in 2025, health authorities cautioned that weekly infection rates have escalated over recent morbidity weeks.
The city recorded its highest single-week tally for the year during Morbidity Week 36 (6 to 12 September), reporting 356 new cases. Children aged 5 to 17 accounted for 156 of those cases, or 44 percent of the weekly total.
The Quezon City Health Department advised residents to seek immediate medical attention for persistent fevers lasting more than two days.
