Nafarrete joins PAF in Air Defense Training
Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) joined the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in the Air Planning Exercise and Training Flight held at the Basa Air Base in Floridablanca, Pampanga on 30 September 2026.
The said training is part of the PAF’s continuing commitment to strengthening operational readiness and maintaining a credible, agile, and responsive air force capable of adapting to the evolving character of warfare and addressing national and regional security requirements.
General Nafarrete also participated in the training sortie, which included a Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) mission and showcased Offensive Counterair capabilities. His firsthand participation provided direct appreciation of the planning, coordination, and execution involved in air operations, as well as the PAF’s contribution to the broader defense mission of the AFP.
Following the sortie, General Nafarrete was presented with a Mach 1+ Patch and Mach Buster Certificate in recognition of his participation in the flight and firsthand experience of supersonic flight. He also conducted a Talk to Troops, where he shared his guidance and insights and emphasized the importance of professionalism, preparedness, and mission readiness.
Through sustained training and realistic exercises, the AFP continues to enhance the integration of its capabilities and maintain a high state of readiness in fulfilling its mandate to defend the nation and protect the Filipino people.
The Philippine Air Force Inventory operates over 200 active aircraft in 2026 as part of its ongoing transition from internal security to territorial defense under the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept.
These include key fighter and attack aircraft such as the FA-50PH/ Block 70 that operates as the primary light-fighter and supersonic interceptor asset; the EMB-314 Super Tucano that is used for close air support and counter-insurgency; and the T129B ATAK, dedicated tactical reconnaissance and attack helicopters supporting ground operations.
These also include transport and helicopters such as the Lockheed C-130 Hercules & C-130J for heavy lift and tactical transport; CASA NC-212i, a light transport aircraft utilized for inter-island troop and cargo movement; the S-70i Black Hawk & Bell 412 used as utility and multirole combat helicopters; and the PZL W-3 Sokół that are assigned to search-and-rescue groups.
