Laguna college suspends on-site classes amid security concern
Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna suspended all in-person classes and activities Thursday, shifting students to online instruction following an undisclosed security concern on campus.
School administrators issued an emergency advisory instructing faculty and students to transition to synchronous online classes effective immediately while law enforcement officers and emergency personnel conducted a security sweep of the premises.
“School administration is working closely with local law enforcement and emergency personnel, who are currently conducting a thorough investigation,” the university said in its statement.
The incident in Laguna coincided with heightened security responses across school campuses nationwide.
In Sultan Kudarat, Philippine National Police chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended local police for their swift handling of a security scare at Isulan National High School on Wednesday.
Responding officers placed the high school campus in Barangay Kalawag 1 under lockdown after a loud sound triggered panic among students and staff who suspected gunfire.
Subsequent physical inspections and interviews confirmed no shooting occurred, with police determining that the sound originated from an electrical wiring malfunction.
No injuries or ballistics evidence were reported.
Nartatez said that law enforcement officers are working alongside the Bureau of Fire Protection and local authorities to audit school infrastructure safety and monitor online channels to curb misinformative rumors regarding campus security threats.
