SOCIAL SET
A tale of two tables
Ultimately, both gatherings left behind the same pleasant satisfaction of good food enjoyed in great company.
Two recent gatherings shared one common denominator: food. Yet, the occasions themselves could not have been more different. One was an intimate book launch, while the other was a lively celebration of Oktoberfest. Both, however, brought people together around the table, proving once again that good food is always better when shared.
At Kabilin (Heritage Lounge) in Golden Prince Hotel and Suites, friends gathered over a leisurely merienda to celebrate Louella Alix and the launch of her new book, Tam-is. The afternoon was relaxed and cheerful, featuring an inviting spread of savory bites, sweets, coffee and tea. Friends took their time catching up, exchanging stories and congratulating Louella on her latest literary milestone. With last-minute greetings, photographs and promises to meet again soon, it was the kind of gathering that didn’t need much fuss to be memorable.
Trading the quiet charm of the book launch for a completely different mood, the scene shifted to the Oktoberfest celebration at Casino Español de Cebu. The atmosphere was vibrant, steeped in German tradition as guests gathered to enjoy hearty fare and raise their glasses. Food took center stage, with generous portions of sausages and savory specialties distinctly contrasting the lighter merienda from earlier in the week. Music, laughter, and animated conversation fueled the festive spirit as guests embraced the lively camaraderie.
Ultimately, both gatherings left behind the same pleasant satisfaction of good food enjoyed in great company. Whether celebrating a new book or a beloved cultural tradition, food transformed these events into something worth remembering.
Perhaps that is what makes Cebu’s social scene so uniquely enjoyable—whether over quiet coffee or a table of robust German fare, there is always room for another story, another laugh and another toast to friendship.
