Michael Jackson musical opens ticket sales for Southeast Asian debut
The Tony-winning production begins its first Southeast Asian run at Sands Theatre in August 2027.
The stage musical MJ THE MICHAEL JACKSON MUSICAL is heading to Southeast Asia for the first time, with tickets for its Singapore season now on sale.
The four-time Tony Award-winning production will run at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, from 1 August 2027 for a limited season. Singapore will mark the musical’s first stop in Southeast Asia, bringing its theatrical take on Michael Jackson’s artistry to a region where the pop star had a significant concert history.
Jackson performed two sold-out concerts in Singapore during his 1993 Dangerous World Tour, the same tour that provides the backdrop for the musical.
Set in 1992, MJ follows Jackson as he prepares for the Dangerous World Tour, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind the production. The story is told through the perspective of an MTV journalist given access to rehearsals, allowing the musical to explore Jackson’s work as a performer and the collaborators who helped shape his vision.
Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, MJ features more than 25 Jackson hits, including “Beat It,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Thriller.”
The musical has already reached more than 8 million audience members through productions on Broadway, London’s West End and Hamburg, as well as tours in the United States and Australia.
Its creative team includes director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon OBE, whose work on the production earned him the Tony Award for Best Choreography. The production has also received an Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreography for its London run.
The Singapore season is produced by original Broadway producers Lia Vollack and John Branca, together with Michael Cassel and Base Entertainment Asia.
For Singapore audiences and theatergoers from across the region, the production also brings Jackson’s music back to a city closely connected to the history of the Dangerous era.
Public on-sale and early-bird tickets began on 30 September, with 10% off selected categories and performances. Priority sales for UOB cardholders and waitlist subscribers began earlier, with discounts of up to 20% on eligible tickets. Priority and public early-bird offers run until 31 October 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Singapore time.
