‘Quezon,’ ‘In Thy Name’ mostnominated at 74th FAMAS Awards
Each film received 12 nominations, giving them the strongest presence across the announced categories and placing them at the forefront of this year’s celebration of Philippine cinema.
The race for this year’s FAMAS trophies is shaping up to be a major showdown between Quezon and In Thy Name, with both films emerging as the most-nominated productions at the 74th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards.
Each film received 12 nominations, giving them the strongest presence across the announced categories and placing them at the forefront of this year’s celebration of Philippine cinema.
Quezon, directed by Jerrold Tarog, is in contention for Best Picture and Best Director, while Jericho Rosales earned a Best Actor nomination. Karylle Tatlonghari and Mon Confiado were also recognized in the supporting acting categories.
The film also secured nominations in several technical categories, including Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Musical Score and Best Visual Effects.
Matching its 12-nomination haul is In Thy Name, directed by Ceasar Soriano. Aside from Best Picture and Best Director, the film earned acting nominations for McCoy de Leon, Elora Españo and JC de Vera.
In Thy Name also made a strong showing in the craft categories, receiving nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Musical Score and Best Visual Effects.
Close behind the two films is Sunshine, which garnered eight nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Antonette Jadaone and Best Actress for Maris Racal.
Manila’s Finest received seven nominations, while I’mPerfect and Bar Boys After School each earned five.
The Best Actress race brings together Maricel Soriano for Meet, Greet & Bye, Krystel Go for I’mPerfect, Charo Santos for Only We Know, Angelica Panganiban for Unmarry and Maris Racal for Sunshine.
Competing for Best Actor are Jericho Rosales for Quezon, Piolo Pascual for Manila’s Finest, Earl Jonathan Amaba for I’mPerfect, Carlo Aquino for Bar Boys After School and McCoy de Leon for In Thy Name.
The winners will be announced when the 74th FAMAS Awards takes place on 27 October at The Manila Hotel.
