PAGTANAW 2050 progress report highlight Phl innovations

Eight years into the implementation of PAGTANAW 2050 — the country’s 30-year strategic roadmap for science, technology, and innovation — the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) will showcase key technological breakthroughs and homegrown inventions during the 2026 National Science, Technology and Innovation Week in General Santos City on 28 November.

Led by the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) at the Greenleaf Hotel, the forum will review the progress of frontier technologies and research initiatives established since the foresight plan was commissioned in 2018 and published in 2021.

Among the major operational achievements highlighted under the PAGTANAW 2050 framework is the expansion of space technology and remote sensing.

Pioneered by the establishment of the Philippine Space Agency in 2019, the initiative leverages satellite data and geospatial mapping alongside DoST-Phivolcs and DoST-PAGASA monitoring systems to power national disaster early-warning networks.

In industrial development, the DoST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center introduced 3D printing and additive manufacturing to local sectors through its Advanced Manufacturing Center.

The department has also advanced public transportation technologies with the deployment of electric-powered transit models, including e-trikes, c-trikes, e-tranvias and e-ferries.

The national roadmap also prioritizes food security and coastal management through genomics, smart farming tools, and marine energy applications that harness aquatic resources for the country’s “Blue Economy.”

These technological advancements are supported by legislative frameworks such as the Philippine Innovation Act, the Innovative Startup Act, the Philippine Technology Transfer Act, and the Balik Scientist Act, which continue to drive research funding and technical implementation across the country.
