Ex-senator volunteers as witness

Former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV said Tuesday he was ready to take the witness stand in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, even without a subpoena.

Trillanes, a longtime critic of the Duterte family, was among the witnesses listed by the House prosecution panel to testify on its allegations regarding the Vice President’s alleged unexplained wealth.

He appeared at the Senate yesterday, saying he was prepared to present the information he had gathered regardless of whether the impeachment court issued him a subpoena or not.

“The purpose of the subpoena is if you have to be compelled to attend, but me, I am willing and ready. So even if they don’t issue a subpoena, I’m ready to be presented,” he told reporters.
