DoH tracks 21K new dengue cases

Health authorities recorded an 8 percent increase in dengue cases in late August, according to an epidemiological report released Tuesday by the Department of Health (DoH).

Health officials logged 21,122 new dengue cases from 27 August to 9 September, up from the 19,572 cases reported during the preceding two-week period from 13 to 26 August.

The recent surge brings the total number of dengue infections nationwide to 168,060 from 1 January through 9 September.

Despite the recent biweekly increase, overall nationwide infections remain 30 percent lower compared to the 239,001 cases recorded during the same period in 2025.

The Department of Health reported 656 deaths attributed to dengue so far this year. Fatalities also showed a decrease from the previous year, when 910 dengue-related deaths were logged during the same comparative timeframe.
