Basketball, charity mark ‘Mighty’ courts inauguration

Basketball and charity took center stage as Mighty Sports inaugurated its new courts at AcroCity in Guiguinto, Bulacan, turning the occasion into a festive gathering where fans got to watch some of the country’s familiar stars while continuing its tradition of giving back to athletes and communities.

The celebration brought together former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)

players, collegiate standouts and current stars for an exhibition game that gave fans a glimpse of the new facility while raising support for Guiguinto student-athletes, the Persons with Disabilities Malolos Foundation and the Xavier School Association Retired Colleagues Inc.

For AcroCity and Czark Mak chairman Caesar Wongchuking, the event reflected the family’s long-standing connection with sports and its support for schools and communities.

“Pamilya na rin po talaga namin ang sports,” Wongchuking said, citing the family’s support for Xavier School, Ateneo de Manila and other schools, as well as its success in international basketball competitions.

“Magiging malaking karangalan po sa amin na ito yung maging venue ng discovery ng mga atleta natin,” he added, referring to the new courts as a potential venue for discovering and developing young talent.

Team AcroCity Zavier All-Stars featured Chris Tiu, Charles Tiu, TY Tang, Jett Manuel, Tyler Tio, Joseph Yeo, Jeron Teng and AcroCity executive vice president and director Angelo Wongchuking.

Team Agilas of Malolos, meanwhile, was led by former PBA star Asi Taulava, Abra players Encho Serrano and Shaun Ildefonso, and Gilas Pilipinas youth team member Chog Moral.

Team AcroCity Zavier All-Stars edged Team Agilas, 106-104, with Teng helping seal the victory with a clutch layup and free throw.

Fifth District of Bulacan Rep. Agatha Paula Agay Cruz said the development also reflects the potential of Guiguinto and the opportunities it can provide to its residents.

“This is another testament to the opportunity you have seen in the potential of our community and potential ng bayan ng Guiguinto,” Cruz said. “More importantly, what we are creating is opportunities for families to grow, to live, to work and to play.”

Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad also highlighted Mighty Sports’ continuing partnership with the Malolos City sports program and its contribution to the development of young Filipino athletes.

The new courts form part of the Mighty Sports Center at AcroCity, a development envisioned as a “Live, Work, Play” destination in Guiguinto.
