Pasig cuts electricity use during 4-day workweek

Pasig City Hall reduced its electricity consumption by more than 10 percent under a four-day workweek implemented to curb municipal energy costs amid volatile global fuel prices, Mayor Vico Sotto said Monday.

Sotto announced that the local government will maintain the compressed schedule through the end of 2026 after the Office of General Services reported substantial drops in electricity and fuel expenses.

“It turns out we are saving more than 10 percent, and that is just for electricity alone,” Sotto said in Filipino, citing comparative utility records from the temporary city hall between August 2025 and August 2026.

Pasig originally adopted the temporary four-day schedule in April to counter rising fuel prices linked to Middle East tensions. The city concurrently instituted strict energy conservation protocols across municipal facilities.
