Comelec targets 3-M new registered voters

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expects approximately 3 million citizens to sign up during the upcoming voter registration drive set to resume in November ahead of the 2028 national and local elections.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia announced the projection during a radio interview Monday, citing that the national voter roll is expected to expand significantly over the registration period.

“Our expectation by the 2028 national and local elections is that we will reach around 74 million voters,” Garcia said, citing that active registered voters currently stand at 71 million.

Garcia added that there are roughly 25 million registered youth voters aged 15 to 17 eligible to participate in Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Individuals turning 15 years old are encouraged to register when application windows open in November.

During the resumption of voter registration, the poll body will also accept applications for transfer of registration record, correction of entries, and reactivation of deactivated voting status.
