Aurora dengue cases surge at 2,299

Dengue cases in Aurora province surged by 145 percent year-on-year, reaching 2,299 total infections as health authorities reported 89 new cases as of 19 September.

Data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) shows a steep rise from the 940 cases recorded during the same period in 2025.

PHO officials have also logged seven dengue-related fatalities, representing a case fatality rate of 0.3 percent.

Patients ranged in age from one month to 104 years old, with a median age of 12. Children between the ages of one and 10 accounted for the largest share of infections at 968 cases, or 42 percent of the provincial total. Male patients comprised 50 percent of all recorded cases.

Maria Aurora recorded the highest total case count among the province’s municipalities with 507 infections, while Dilasag posted the highest attack rate at 23.5 cases per 1,000 residents.

The Aurora provincial government urged residents to implement the Department of Health’s “5S” strategy against mosquito-borne illness — search and destroy breeding sites, practice self-protection, seek early consultation, support space spraying during outbreaks, and sustain hydration.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, causing high fever, severe headaches, eye pain, joint and muscle aches and skin rashes.
