Public Works targets South Triangle flooding

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin expanding the drainage systems and street inlets across Barangay South Triangle in January to mitigate severe, recurring floods in the commercial district before the next rainy season.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon announced Sunday that engineering crews will install 1.5-meter-wide high-density polyethylene pipes along Mother Ignacia Avenue to accelerate stormwater runoff and clear inundated roadways.

"We will start in January, and hopefully, by June we will be finished in time for the next rainy season," Dizon said, citing that floodwaters in parts of South Triangle frequently reach chest height during heavy downpours.

Dizon said the project was planned following recent site inspections directed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who instructed public works officials to assess vulnerable zones across Quezon City and implement immediate infrastructure interventions.
