Retired army soldier shot dead in CDO

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a retired Army soldier while he was about to open the gate of a compound in Sitio Bongton, Barangay Camamanan, before noon Friday.

The victim, who was working as a security driver for a prominent lawyer, was driving a Toyota Innova and was about to enter his employer’s compound when one of the two suspects pulled a pistol and opened fire.

An initial police report said the victim had just returned from an errand and was alighting from the vehicle to open the gate when an unidentified individual approached and shot him.

Two people are believed to be responsible. They fled on a black Yamaha Sniper motorcycle with no license plate — the driver wearing a black jacket and the backrider wearing maroon-colored clothing.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, through Police Station 2, immediately responded to the shooting incident and processed the crime scene.

Personnel led by the station commander proceeded to the area. They found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team arrived at the location and processed the crime scene.

Police assured the public that a full and active investigation is underway. Intelligence operatives are conducting follow-up operations to identify, locate, and apprehend the perpetrators.

Police appealed to any witness or person with personal knowledge of the incident — including anyone who may have seen the motorcycle or the individuals described — to contact COCPO or Police Station 2 immediately.
