MARINA honors 4 ship masters amid Hormuz risks

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) honored four Filipino ship masters for keeping their vessels and crews safe while operating through the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.

The recipients of the Award for Exceptional Resilience and Courage were Capt. Rogel P. Seradoy of PRV M/V Eva Fuji, Capt. Christopher B. Bulandra of PRV M/V Lyng Trader, Capt. Goldwyn S. Fuentes of PRV M/V Vivian Trader and Capt. Bienvenido E. Gasal Jr. of PRV M/V Western Doncaster.

Marina also recognized the Seafarers Shipping Group of Companies for providing shore-based support and monitoring the four vessels.

The Department of Migrant Workers and Department of Foreign Affairs were also recognized for their assistance to Filipino seafarers.

The DMW assisted Filipino seafarers aboard the four Philippine-registered vessels and monitored Filipino crew members aboard foreign-flagged ships amid the Middle East hostilities.

The DFA assisted seafarers aboard Philippine-registered vessels and coordinated with foreign missions, flag states and coastal states on the safe passage of Philippine-registered ships and their crews.

The awards were presented during Marina’s Awards and Appreciation Night in Manila on 24 September.
