Legarda camp urges plunder rap review

Senator Loren Legarda’s camp has asked the Office of the Ombudsman to reconsider pursuing a plunder complaint against her, saying the case is a political attack on the senator and her son, Congressman Leandro Leviste.

Speaking at a news forum on Friday, Legarda’s spokesperson, Atty. Tony La Viña, maintained that there was insufficient evidence to establish any criminal wrongdoing on the senator’s part.

“We would like the government, especially the Ombudsman, to reconsider and not pursue the case,” La Viña said.

He also argued that the complaint would not meet the standards set by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla for the Department of Justice, which calls for cases to be filed only when there is a reasonable certainty of conviction.
